Free Throws Help Rockets Gain 2-0 Lead Against Jazz

by Angelo on April 24th, 2007

To put things simply, the Utah Jazz 98-90 loss against the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of their series was horrible! At first glance at the score, an 8 point deficit at game’s end shouldn’t warrant being labeled a horrible loss but it’s really the story behind the score that makes something that doesn’t look too bad look like bad dream.

For me Tto things make the Jazz’s performance look really bad:

The Rockets’ stars Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady shot horribly from the field. They were at 9-24 and 9-29 respectively. What saved them was the free throw shooting as they were 9-9 and 12-14 from the foul line respectively. The team went 34-38 from the line.

Utah’s Carlos Boozer exploded for 41 points and 9 rebounds. Deron Williams and Matt Harpring played good games too but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

When you put these two together it tells the story that the Rockets played pretty badly shooting the ball but the Jazz still lost. It also tells the story that if Boozer didn’t explode for 41 points, the score would have been much much lower for the Jazz and instead of looking like an acceptable playoff game score, it would have been plain massacre. I understand that it’s tough to contain Yao Ming and T-Mac and it’s looking like the Jazz might not even win a game at this rare. At least give the Rockets some more fight! Show the world why the Jazz was considered a force in the West!
