Suns To Sign Grant Hill

by Angelo on July 6th, 2007

The exciting Phoenix Suns just got more exciting as they agreed to sign veteran forward Grant Hill to a two year deal. His contract with the Orlando Magic just expired and they used the space his contract took up to pry Rashard Lewis away from the Seattle Sonics.

I love the Phoenix Suns so it’s nice to hear that they hot Hill. Hill may not be the guy he used to be before the injuries but he still makes a decent contribution averaging 15 points a game last season. With Steve Nash to feed his shots he should get even more production per 48 minutes. He’s a guy who could take a drop in his play time if he takes a reserve role (because of Boris Diaw and Shawn Marion) but you can expect him to play quality minutes. Hill will provide some veteran leadership and aood locker room presence to help Steve Nash and coach Mike D’Antoni keep the team together and focused on winning. Being with the Suns will give the Hill the opportunity to do something he has not yet done - advance in the playoffs. That being said, I doubt if GHill will be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Suns to finally win the championship. Some said the Suns had what it takes to win it all but still fell short last season even with Amare Stoudemire back to his old form playing at a high level. Hill won’t be that guy who will make that much of a difference.

Still, Grant Hill should enjoy playing for a quality organization in the Phoenix Suns and with a great leader and player such as Steve Nash. Even if he doesn’t win a championship he should be happy that he has more chances to play again and this time with a team I think he will be more comfortable with.
