Fred Jones to the Raptors

by Angelo on July 24th, 2006

I always wondered if Fred Jones would ever leave the Indiana Pacers since he had a really nice nickname going on there. Now it seems the nickname “Indiana Jones” is dead since he’s now going to the Toronto Raptors. I think the Raptors began to pursue Jones when Sixer free agent John Salmons backed out of a sign and trade deal that would have sent him to the Raptors for a 2nd round pick.

I’m happy for Jones, who was oftenly injured in his days with the Pacers, that he is being given a chance to start over in a team that wants his services. In a team that’s loaded with big men and forwards, Jones would have an opportunity not just to play a lot but even compete for a starting position. Bryan Colangelo is having a really active off-season with so many transactions already. I really hope these changes will translate on the court come the regular season.
