Spurs Up 3-0 In Low Scoring Game 3
It was close but no cigar for the Cavaliers losing 75-72 to the San Antonio Spurs in game 3. They now find themselves just a game away from being swept. This is the closest the Cavaliers have coms to winning so far but still fell short of doing what they needed to do which was to protect their home court.
The was pretty tough throughout especially with the score tying for second lowest in a Finals game. Lebron James had 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists while Drew Gooden had 13 points 12 rebounds and Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 12 points 18 rebounds. Daniel Gibson struggled offensively with 2 points on 1-10 shooting. For the Spurs, Tim Duncan only had 14 points and 9 rebounds while Tony Parker added 17. Bruce Bowen was the unexpected hero scoring 13 points and 9 rebounds
History is already against the Cavaliers in terms of winning a championship. No one has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit in any playoff series and that’s where the Cavaliers are right now. This means that while it’s quite improbable that the Cavs will come out of this, it doesn’t mean it’s over just yet. I remember one series in the playoffs a few years ago when the Portland Trailblazers came back from a similar 0-3 deficit againt the Dallas Mavericks to force a game 7. While the Blazers lost that game it was probably the closest anyone has gotten to break the odds and it’s proof that the Cavs have a least a ray of hope to win at least one game.
There were moments towards the end of the game (including the controversial call on Lebron at the very end) where the Cavs could have won or at least tied the game. They had some pretty good looks but basketball gods just weren’t with them. Many a time did I see Lebron penetrate only to find that his shot wouldn’t go in. Even with Daniel Gibson not shooting well, they were still closer than ever to winning that game. Perhaps coach Mike Brown has to take a hint from this game since they actually played better without Larry Hughes on the floor due to injury. If Hughes is available for the next game I say they need to bench him. Gibson did a good job keeping up with Tony Parker while Hughes doesn’t. It’s the right thing to do and what more he’ll be the right guy for them especially if he starts to get his shot back.
It’s win or get swept for the Cavs and no one wants to get swept. There’s no shame in losing the series to the Spurs but come one, win a game will ya!
