Spurs trade for ?

by james on February 8th, 2008

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.

Tim Duncan says “You have to stop me to get to the finals

The Lakers picked up Pau Gasol, so they would not lose any momentum when Andrew Bynum was injured. When Bynum comes back, you have a front court of Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and Lamar Odom to go with Kobe Bryant. Arguably a powerful lineup.

The Phoenix Suns dealt the Matrix for Shaquille O’Neal. The Suns needed a center to get past the Spurs and because the Gasol deal had moved the Lakers ahead of them. If Shaq can turn it on one more time for the speedy Suns with Amare Stoudemire moving to power forward and Steve Nash wanting to win a ring before he retires, then the deal will look brilliant.

Even the San Francisco Warriors picked up Chris Weber, because they have playoff potential and are seeking any edge they can find.

So the Spurs looked around and decided to take…no one.

Yeah, that is right. No one.

“I never feel pressure to make a deal,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “We talk to everybody, just like the other 29 teams. If something makes sense, we’ll do it. But making deals because you feel pressure is a recipe for failure.” source

Now the San Antonio Spurs did sign Damon Stoudamire to fill in for the injured Tony Parker, but that is it.

Their record does not look quite as sparkling as usual due to various injuries, but come playoff time you still have to knock off the Big Fundamental if you want to win the West.

NBA Basketball Fan Question Are the Spurs still the team to beat?

As always, any NBA Basketball related comments are welcome.

I’ve already blogged about who the Spurs should add to the roster, the ONE player who makes the MOST sense is Corey Maggette, and with Sterling’s tight wallet, and Barry’s expiring contract, it could happen.

Sterling will probably lose Brand in the off season, but Maggette will most likely go to the Eastern Conference.

I love basketball but the NBA must make some changes. Once again the Eastern conference is boring. Yes, the Celtics are pretty good but the Cavs would probably be the eighth seed in the West. The Nets and Pistons make me want to go to sleep. The Spurs, Lakers, Suns, and Nuggets are the most exciting teams in the league unfortunately they are all in the West. Which makes for another boring NBA finals. The most exciting playoff series last season was definitely the Spurs-Suns. I do not want to hear any baloney that the Spurs are boring because it was not the their fault that the Eastern conference teams are terrible. No one wants to see a blow out like the FIBA America’s tournament. The FIBA America’s tournament could not even fill out half the arena to watch the NBA stars. I suggest for the playoffs the NBA send the second seed in the West to the East, and the second seed in the East to the West. Had it been that way last year the Spurs and Suns would have met in the finals and the ratings would have been great. Please, the NBA must do something to provide a great finals match up. I also hope the refs do not help Shaq and Kobe as in past years either, just to get the Lakers or Suns in the finals.

frankly, i don’t like clippers management (actually only sterling). At the other side, steve kerr is doing good in trading in Shaq (remember grant hill?), yet marion is alwiz wanting a trade, why not, right? I’m still voting Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets this year, dare me? haha~

Houston Rockets? You can’t be serious?

    Will Matrix make his mark?

    Hey ray,
for myself the fast paced styles of Dallas, Phoenix, and Golden State just do not win championships.

    You have to play D.
The boring teams are playing the D.
Boston, Detroit, and San Antonio all play D. Cleveland last year played D.

Gotta admit, though, it would be fun to see Shaq in the finals again.
