Spurs Make Lebron’s Finals Debut Forgettable
Call them boring but the San Antonio Spurs went to work and they got the job done. That’s the important thing. But they didn’t just get the job done. Not only did they win 85-76, they managed to make this Finals debut for Lebron James and his Cavs very forgettable hanks to solid defense.
Lebron shot a horrible 4-16 in the game to score 16 points. The Spurs were just on top of him the whole game and managed to cut off any lane to the basket. The Spurs knew their main task was to contain him and that’s what they did and it paid off. But it wasn’t only LBJ who struggled as center Zydrunas Ilgauskas only managed to score 2 point on 1-8 shooting. Daniel Gibson wasn’t really able to explode like he did in the Detroit series but he managed to come out with a solid 16 point production (7-9 shooting) from the bench in 28 minutes of play.
For the Spurs on the other hand, they just plain dominated. Tim Duncan scored 24 points and had 4 rebounds while Tony Parker added 27 points to lead the team. The scary pasrt is that if you look at the stats, you’ll notice that they really don’t look like they had to explode offensively. The numbers just don’t jump at you. This goes to show that the defense did it all for this game so if the Cavs want to win they willl have to play much better and smarter to go around the Spurs defense. In spite of this forgettable loss in game 1, there’s still alot of chance that things will get better.
You have to understand that this is only thier first time to reach the Finals while the Spurs have been here before. The next game will be quite telling as to the direction of the series since the novelty of playing in the finals should be gone. They should be able to shake off this loss and since they know what to expect now they should adjust and play better basketball (especially Lebron). If they can’t do this in the next game the Spurs will eat them alive again. We want to see Lebron play lthe way he did in the Detroit series. If you’re gonna lose to the Spurs then at least show the world that you did everything you could! Lebron did not show that here.

LBJ has really grown throughout the playoffs this year, it’s like he watched Overtime after each game and actively listened to Barkley, Kenny, Magic and Reggie’s comments and took them onboard.
SA play boringly, monotonous yet amazingly efficient team basketball. You have to respect the way Parker and particularly Duncan maintain focus on the court.
We really couldn’t expect a lot more from this series it’ll be over in 5 to the Spurs, we can all hope that LeBron continues to up the ante though. :)
