Sixers to fine Iverson, Webber

by Angelo on April 19th, 2006

The 76ers will fine Iverson and Webber for not being at the arena 90 minutes before the game against the Nets, and their top-two leading scorers did not show up in the locker room until the game tipped off.

King said he knew at Tuesday morning’s shootaround that Iverson and Webber would be given the home regular-season finale off because of injuries. But King did expect the duo to be at the game. Iverson was to miss the game with an ankle injury, and Webber had a sore back.

Is this a sign of Sixers morale? The two leading scorers of a team, while injured, arrive late as if there’s nothing more to be gained. The coach acting like all has been lost. The GM admitting he has a bad team.

Yes, there is a cause for concern. The Sixers didn’t make the playoffs. But they shouldn’t be so glum. They had a legitimate run for the playoffs, causing a nail biting situation when the Sixers and the Bulls would knock each other out of the 8th spot in the East. Yes, the Bulls triumphed in the end but at least their effort almost got them in. They should be happy that they didn’t end up like New York or Houston, legitimate playoff teams if you look at the “talent on paper” situation.
