Raptors A Nice Fit For Darko?
The agreement to sign Rashard Lewis has caused the Orlando Magic to withdraw their offer to Darko Milicic making him an unrestricted free agent. But where will he go? His time with the magic has been much better than his days with the Detroit Pistons where he won a championship ring in his rookie season but never really was given the chance to play and work for it. This went on even past his rookie season so a trade to the Magic looked like a godsend.
He may still not be the kind of talent he was drafted #2 overall in 2003 for but he’s shown the basketball world that he does have a nice upside. The thing that stands out about his game is that he’s an excellent shot blocker and a good rebounder. Hear me out when I say a great place for him to end up in is a team like the Toronto Raptors. That team is high on international players as they have guys like Rasho Nesterovic, Jorge Garbajosa, Andrea Bargnani, Jose Manuel Calderon and just recently former Piston Carlos Delfino. Bargnani is more of a scorer and Nesterovic could need some help. Chris Bosh can’t do all the work. Darko Milicic can be that guy for them if you give him a chance.
Of course the risk that teams see with getting Darko now is that he’s still some sort of mystery as to what he really can do. He has shown flashed of what he can do but needs to work to be consistent in doing them. This blurs the perception on how much he really is worth. Nevertheless I still think the Raptors is a great place for him to get another chance.
