Pau Gasol Will Be Missed
Pau Gasol was not at all missed by the Spanish team during the FIBA World Championships but his absence will affect his NBA team, the Memphis Grizzlies. For years, the Memphis Grizzlies have struggled to get to the playoffs and when they finally did, they could never get past the first round - that’s with Pau Gasol too. Logically speaking then, with Pau Gasol out for a few months the Grizzlies will have a much much harder time this season and might not even make the playoffs this time around.
Gasol’s improvement over the years has propelled him into All-Star status, with his first appearance at the All Star Game last season. His combination of quickness and size helps him to finish with ease. He will be missed by the Grizzlies and with Lorenzen Wright going to the Atlanta Hawks, that’s another big man out. It’s a good thing ther Grizzlies have been known for depth. Guys like Stromile Swift, Jake Tsakalidis and Hakim Warrick could play Gasol’s spots on the floor and the whole team will have to step up their game. This is the perfect situation for last season’s 6th Man of the Year awardee Mike Miller and rookie Rudy Gay to step up and show the team what they are made of. Until Gasol comes back, I think the team will struggle and this just might cost them a playoff berth. This is exactly the kind of nightmare teams are afraid of when their players compete in international competitions.
