Pacers Honor Reggie
Just recently, the Utah Jazz retired Karl Malone’s #32 Jersey. At the half mtime of Pacer’s game against the Phoenix Suns on March 30, Reggie Miller’s #31 jersey was retired. Reggie retired at the end of last season and left the league as the all time leader in 3 pointers made with 2,560 and with the reputation as one of the best clutch shooters of all time.
Reggie Miller came into the league as some skinny dude from UCLA. When he was drafted by the Pacers back in 1987, fans were not happy with the choice but then he eventually changed their minds.
Miller starred in college at UCLA. When he left the school, his 2,095 career points were second only to Lew Alcindor’s 2,325. However, Pacers fans were not pleased when the team selected Miller in the first round of the ‘87 draft. Many hoped the Pacers would select Indiana University guard Steve Alford, a Hoosier State native who had just led IU to an NCAA championship. Reggie Miller joins the likes of Sir Charles, John Stockton, Karl Malone and Patrick Ewing as great players who have retired without a championship ring. Damn MJ! Too bad they played during MJ’s career.
