Oden, Durant Had Nasty Debuts

by Angelo on July 7th, 2007

Top picks Greg Oden and Kevin Durant started off their professional careers on the wrong foot as they played horrible debut games in the summer league. Greg Oden scored just 6 points and committed 10 fouls causing him to foul out of the summer league game that allows more room for fouls. Durant on the other hand had his first shot blocked and shot just 5-17 from the field but still ended up with 18 points.

Obviously Durant had the better game since 18 point is still 18 points but the percentage was still horrible. Of course this is just their first games so we can attribute this to being a rookie. Down the road this season I’m sure these rookies will do much better when they adjust properly to the NBA game. It’s a huge hurdle to go over and we must always remember that these “saving graces” for their respective teams are still learning and adjusting. Now that Oden and Durant have played their first games as pros I’m sure they’ll do much better since they have had a taste of what to expect.

As fans, we should cherish these moments because we’re seeing future stars start out. We are witnesses to seeing the humble beginnings of big things to come. We’ll be able to say one day when these guys are huge stars in the league that we saw them struggle but they overcame!
