Mavericks On 12-0 Winning Streak!
The first month of the NBA season is over and things are starting to normailze a bit after some crazy occurrences. One of them was that the Mavericks were winless after four games, which was uncharacteristic of the team that became champs in the Western Conference. Some teams, like players, need some momentum to get their act going at full gear so early performances are not really credible predictions of what will happen over the course of the season. If we were to trust the early performance of the Mavericks as representative of the whole season, the Mavericks wouldn’t be on a 12-0 winning streak.
The reason for their early struggle, I believe, stemmed from getting used to playing with the newly acquired players. During the off-season the Mavs acquired Austin Croshere and Anthony Johnson from the Pacers and former Laker Devean George from free agency. I noticed that coach Avery Johnson loves using Anthony Johnson at the point a lot and since he’s new the Mavs were new to his style and it took time for the team to get used to his style and the style of the other new guys. Time. That’s all it took for the mavericks to get up and going like they used to last season. They’re a hot team and I won’t be surprised if they extend the streak even further. They have the Wizards, Nets, Pistons and Nuggets on their schedule next week. Those are all teams the Mavs have a shot at winning so don’t be surprised if their streak goes all the way to 16-0!
