Mavericks Dethrone Spurs in Game 7 Victory

The Champions have been dethroned but the replacement is still up for grabs! A nail biting Texas showdown results in a game 7 victory 119-111 in OT for the Dallas Mavericks against last season’s champs the San Antonio Spurs. Both Nowitzki and Duncan had big games, with 37 points 15 rebounds and 41 points 15 rebounds respectively.
The Mavericks had three chances to edge the Spurs and only needed one. The Mavs had to use all three chances, finally getting it done on the third. But the Mavs almost failed in this attempt. The ghosts of Mavericks past seemed to haunt them in this game as they managed to get a 20 point lead in the second quarter just to see it pitifully reduced.
A 3 pointer by Manu Ginobili with 32 seconds to go almost sealed the victory for the Spurs, giving them a 104-101 lead. But Nowitzki wouldn’t take that sitting down as he managed to pull off a 3 point play, with a made layup as he got fouled and making the free throw. This brought the game to OT. I guess the Spurs were so disheartened about that play since they seemed to run out of gas in OT, scoring only 7 points while the Mavs scored 15. And the rest is history!
Too bad for the Spurs but as I said the odds were against them. They did a good job managing to get the series to a game 7 and almost winning too. I guess luck was on the Mavericks’ side this evening…
