Marquis Daniels for Austin Croshere and Other Trades
So a bunch of trades were announced but like the other trades and free agent movements that have been announced the past few days, they are not yet official (at least not until July 12).
The Dallas Mavericks agreed to ship guard Marquiss Daniels to the Indiana Pacers for forward Austin Croshere. Source
I don’t really get this trade. Marquis Daniels is a great young player who provides some great defense. Why are the Mavericks getting rid of him and then getting an older “ok” player with a big contract who can shoot the perimeter shot? The Mavs don’t need more offense, they have a lot of that already. If they wanted to free up playing time for incoming rookie Maurice Ager, this definitely is the wrong way to do it. I give Indiana the edge on this trade.
Tyson Chandler of the Chicago Bulls will be traded to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets for PJ Brown and JR Smith. Source
I guess the Bulls need more veteran leadership to complement the youth so PJ Brown is good here. He also gives the Bulls more defense! With Ben Wallace coming in, PJ Brown will add more defense to complent him. JR Smith is a questionable acquisition because of his work ethic. No one really doubts his talent though. I hope he shapes up with the Bulls. If his work ethic didn’t please Byron Scott, working for Scott Skiles could be be much worse.
Derek Fisher of Golden State Warriors will be traded to the Utah Jazz for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod, and Andre Owens. Source
I don’t really know what to make of this trade. I guess the Jazz want a veteran point guard to back up Deron Williams and maybe teach him a thing or two to make him better.

the mavs move is purely cap relief. I think they want enough cash to sign howard in the future. its too bad to see daniels walk. He’s gonna be good in indiana.
