Lakers Trade for Ariza

by admin on November 21st, 2007

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.

The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a trade on Tuesday, but it wasn’t involving Kobe Bryant. Lakers general manager announced that the team acquired forward Trevor Ariza from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans.

A native of Los Angeles, Ariza is a 22-year-old, 6-foot-8 small forward, who will provide the Lakers with some defense and athleticism.

With the trade, the Lakers also got rid of the contract of Cook, who is shooting only 19% on the season. Cook still has three years and $10.5 million on his contract.

Head coach Phil Jackson says that though Ariza is a limited shooter, he should be a defensive help who can relieve Kobe Bryant against some of the bigger perimeter scorers in the league, such as Tracy McGrady.

Maurice Evans had been a decent defender in the past. But he started to concentrate more on offense lately and he’s not tall enough to guard the bigger players.

Just for fun … Ariza dunking on Jermaine O’Neal:
