Kobe-less Lakers Pull Off Upset Against Suns

Before watching the Lakers-Suns game I already wrote off the possibility of Lakers victory from happening and for a valid reason too: no Kobe. No Kwame Brown too, who has emerged as a very solid player in the post especially during the playoffs against the Suns last season. The question in my mind was whether or not Amare Stoudemire could perform and regardless of what the answer was, I still still thought the Suns would win easy.
It so happens that Amare did not perform with only a 6 point production and the Suns lost 114-106. While I’m sad that the Suns lost, this is one game I’m actually happy the Lakers won. I saw a different team out there. While Lamar Odom exploded for a 34 points 13 rebounds and 6 assists, the rest of the team showed a lot of effort. The young Andrew Bynum started for the Lakers at center and he pulled off an amazing and surprising performance of 18 points and 9 rebounds. The Lakers team I saw out there moved the ball so well I thought I was watching the Suns! During the playoffs last year, Kobe tried to move the ball on offense to make his teammates more involved and that was a good thing. But this offense looked even better than that and that’s what I felt was the key to this victory.
This game proves that the Lakers can win without Kobe. That has to do something for the team morale. Hopefully, when Kobe returns on the floor he won’t spoil it all. I’ve called him a black hole before and I sure hope that I don’t have to this season. As long as the Lakers can move the ball like they did against the Suns on opening night, I see a bright future for the Lakers this season.
That Andrew Bynum fella made me go “Damn! He’s good!” today =)
