Kobe Explodes, Lakers Team Effort Beats Suns

Somehow I could imagine the Zen Master whispering to Kobe after their game 2 victory against the Suns, “You did well, young Padawan”. Yes, the Lakers emerged victorious (99-93) after a pretty disappointing loss in game 1. The Lakers still stuck to the game plan that didn’t seem to work in game 1. With Kobe back to his explosive self (29 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists) and the Lakers showing a team effort, they got the “W” tying the series 1-1. Kobe can indeed play team basketball if he wanted to.
This game proves what I said would take the Lakers to win in a previous post - Team effort and Kobe’s explosiveness. The Lakers capitalized on the Suns weakness of an undersized front court, with Lamar Odom scoring 21 points and disappointing Kwame Brown having a good game with 12 points. The size advantage of the Lakers made it difficult for the Suns to get their running game going and limited Shawn Marion’s production to just 13 points in 5 of 15 shooting.
The lack of production from Marion had to force point guard Steve Nash to turn on his scoring mode, ending up with 29 points. Phoenix offense was helped by the 23 point production of guard Raja Bell.
This series is getting more exciting by the moment!

I hate to say it, but Kobe finally did things right. He shot less, passed more, and played team basketball. Fortunately, enough Lakers were on the ball too. Wonder though if the absence of Amare helps the Laker cause. The Suns without Amare are a small team, and the big boys of the lakers can finish them off.
