King James Drops 48 In Game 5 Win

by Angelo on June 1st, 2007

Perhaps we have Lebron’s critics to thank for the Cavaliers’ recent success. Or maybe he had what it takes all along and just had tough luck the first two games. Whichever it is, all I have to say is “wow!”.

Lebron scored 48 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists to lift the Cavs to a 109-107 win over the Detroit Pistons in double OT to lead the series 3-2. He was just kept attacking and the Pistons had no answer for him. The thing I like about this series is that you have games like this one that glue you to your seat as the outcome really is decided at the end of the game. The Pistons did a good job against them but I think the Cavs just have the momentum and the high team morale (not to mention the superstar talent) to win this game and even the next game to close out the series.

As I’ve said, the Cavs seem to have the momentum, winning all of their last three games. The Heat was in this situation in the Finals against the Mavs and they managed to pull of the fourth consecutive win. They just need to be careful since the Pistons came out of being one game to elimination last year. With the next game being in Cleveland, the Cavs need to take advantage of the home court opportunity and not allow the series to go back to Detroit where the Pistons might pull something off.

In a way I like the Cavs to make the Finals since it lends novelty to it. When the Heat and the Mavs made the Finals for the first time in both their franchise’s history, that was something to talk about. They were two new teams in the Finals so the factor of the unknown plyed very strongly. If the Cavs make it, the story will be the tested Spurs versus the exciting but new Cavs. That ought to lend some excitement to the series and even draw some more viewers.

So as I end I leave you with “Go Cavs!”

biggest shot in the game was with about a minute left in the first OT. Lebron tried to dribble around two defenders with the shot clock winding down, stepped about a foot inside the arc and threw up a horrendous shot with 5 seconds on the shot clock. Swish. and the momentum was all clevelands. maybe the finals will be exciting.

Somehow, someway, you would think that Coach Saunders would take the ball away from LeBron. Double team, triple team, man waiting under the basket, knock him down, spike his water, something. You don’t let a player score his team’s last 25 points in a row!

    LeBron was awesome.

King James now reminds me of Mighty Michael back in the 90’s, capable of almost any move in the game, while being able to play an unselfish team game. Unlike some selfish guys out there who only play for themselves.

I geuss you could make an arguement after the game 6 win that Lebron has truly earned the title King James, but maybe just maybe it should be King Gibson?
