Grizzlies’ Mike Miller Gets Sixth Man Award

The 2000-2001 Rookie of the Year Mike Miller of the Memphis Grizzlies now gets another top honor - as a reserve. His production off the bench this season was so spectacular he could very well have been a starter like he was last season. In spite of that, he had no problems energizing the team coming off the bench. He ranked top among all NBA reserves in scoring averaging 13.7 points and became the second top scorer for the Grizzlies behind star Pau Gasol. This award is a franchise first.

Mike Miller is the type of guy I think any NBA team would love to have. As far as talent goes, he’s amazing. With Larry Bird as his childhood idol, Mike Miller’s game shows a “Bird-esque” style. He’s an amazing scorer who rebounds very well for his position and is a pretty unselfish player. As far as intangibles go, he’s a hard worker who would do anything to help his team, even if that means coming off the bench.

Although many reserves across the league showed a major impact for their teams; such as jerry Stackhouse, Antonio Mcdyess, and Speedy Claxton, I have no problem with mike Miller taking home this one. His stats show he deserves it and it’s a nice honor for a humble hard working player in the league.
