Durant: I’ll Be Back!
Kevin Durant of Texas is one of the top 2 prospects in this year’s NBA draft. That’s assuming he declares. Texas team mate D.J. Augustin made a statement about Durant that could break the hearts of the NBA teams that have poor records that are hoping to get him.
Augustin also said that star freshman Kevin Durant has told his teammates that he’s coming back.
“But Kevin’s a humble guy, so he’s probably going to say he’s coming back whenever he’s asked that question,” Augustin said.
Assuming this is true and that Kevin won’t change his mind sometime in the future, that makes this year’s draft a lot less attractive. The class will still be pretty deep but without Durant it’s a big loss. But wait! Greg Oden is being mysterious about his situation and I think there’s a big possibility he’ll stay in college too. If that happens, then this draft will really be a big bummer with the expected top two prospects out. This is why I wrote a piece way back about the Greg Oden hype and why teams shouldn’t act as if Oden (and now Durant) will be available for the draft.
On a lighter side it seems Joakim Noah and his Florida buddies Al Horford and Corey Brewer will in fact declare. They should be pretty good acquisitions but they’re nothing close to what Oden and Durant are expected to be.
