Celtics Trade 5 Players, 2 Picks To Wolves In KG Deal

by Angelo on August 1st, 2007

The Kevin Garnett deal is now official with the details of the deal worked out. The T’Wolves will receive five players along with two first round draft picks as part of the said deal.

Boston sent the Minnesota Timberwolves forwards Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and Gerald Green, guard Sebastian Telfair and center Theo Ratliff, two first-round draft picks and cash considerations

While losing a player the caliber of Kevin Garnett could be a pain for the T’Wolves to handle, this kind of deal would be in the spirit of what I thought the start of the rebuilding process should be. The Wolves get a bunch of young talented players in Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes and Al Jefferson. They will get some cap space cleared when the contract of Theo Ratliff expires and they also get 2 first round draft picks. They have the tools to make this rebuilding process work out.

The Celtics on the other hand paid a big price to obtain KG. It’s a price that I foresee will cause the team some problems. Outside the trio of Garnett, Pierce and Allen there isn’t much depth to go around. Considering that Pierce and Allen missed so many games lst season due to injury, there won’t be much talent to fall back on if even one of them goes down during the season.

Acquiring KG decimated the rest of the roster so the work is not yet done. they need to fill up the holes by looking for more players from the free agent market. They need more role players who are willing to take a backseat to the big three and still be happy doing their job. They need to make the team roster deep. Unless they do that, the team will NOT reach their goal.
