Borderline Stars part 3

Here’s my third installment of my Borderline Stars series of posts. You can find the first here and the second here. I hope you agree with my inclusions to the list and if you don’t I hope you’ll tell me why. Thanks.

Tayshaun Prince

With Ben Wallace out of Detroit, the Pistons will have to rely even more on the defensive prowess of Tayshaun Prince. Prince is one of those fierce lockdown defenders and it has a lot to do with his long arms. Just ask Reggie Miller what those arms can do. While Prince is a great defender he’s also a huge part of the Pistons’ offense, accounting for a a good part of their offensive output night in and night out. Prince is just one of those underappreciated guys who can do pretty much everything on the court.

Joe Johnson

Joe Johnson emerged into a great offensive player when he was in Phoenix and that set the stage for an even bigger role as the star of the Atlanta Hawks when he was traded there before the 2005-2006 season. Johnson reminds me of Penny Hardaway because of his deadly offensive talent and his ability to play all three backcourt positions. His combination of size, playmaking skills, and ability to score at will from anywhere on the court make him a threat to reckon with. If he learns to be more aggressive offensively and if he learns to embrace his leadership role the Hawks should see some improvement this season and maybe Johnson will finally be recognized as one of the league’s elite.
