Big Ben Upset With Pistons’ Initial Offer

Ben Wallace is a free agent and is arguably the best one out there now. He’s the heart of the Pistons defense so losing him would definitely leave a huge hole in that defensive scheme. The issue is not really whether he’s worth keeping but whether he’s worth keeping at the price he might ask. I know that a number of teams like the Chicago Bulls that could use him and want him. This is why the news that Ben was not happy with his team’s initial offer to resign him could be potentially good news to those teams.

If I know Ben, he’ll stick around. He’s not the type of player that would leave a team just for money, especially since he’s in an organization that’s all about hard work and winning. He’s in an organization that gave him his first real chance to succeed in the NBA and catapulted him to stardom. He’s in a team that has a chance to win another championship. He mentioned he’s not closing the door on the Pistons and he understands that it’s just the initial offer. He’s just upset because it didn’t seem to be fair. If he was asking for a six year deal then it could be a concern for the Pistons but since he’s only asking for a four year one they should be happy he was even willing to make that compromise to keep the team together. I say the Pistons should give in and offer a better contract. It’s only fair to show him some respect and make him an offer that’s not insulting after all that he’s done for the team. Peace!

[…] Ok I was wrong about Big Ben resigning with the Pistons inspite of that insulting initial offer. The reports were wrong anyway because what was the initial offer of the Pistons turned out to be their final offer. $48M over four years is a small amount to give a player of Ben’s defensive genius. League sources say he’s bolting to the Chicago Bulls who can and are willing to pay him more. […]
