Arenas Out For 2-3 Months Due To Knee Injury

by Angelo on April 6th, 2007

Gilbert Arenas sustained an injury to his left knee which will sideline him for 2-3 months. This injury pretty much puts an end to a very interesting and productive season for the Agent 0. The Wizards are unfortunate to have been dealt this blow since Arenas is the star of the team and to make things worse, fellow team mate and star Caron Butler also got injured recently and he’ll be out for even a longer time. Without Butler and Arenas, only 1/3 of the dynamic trio will be around to lead the team’s offense in Antawn Jamison. Adjustments will have to be made but I still don’t see the team going far into the playoffs without Arenas and Butler.

“That team had a chance to contend, and to lose their most crucial guy at the most pivotal time … it really destroys the whole season, everything they did,” Heat coach Pat Riley said before his team’s game at Cleveland.

Now is the true test of that team’s depth. With Arenas and Butler out, the others will have to step forward and be more than just role players. they have to step up their game and play even more as a team if they hope to achieve anything worthwhile in the remaining games in the regular season and especially during the playoffs. Jamison will have to be their star and others like Songaila, Thomas and Daniels should bring their A game every single night. If they manage to pull off something spectacular without their two stars then we can say that the bench is indeed deep. But history is against them. Lat year they had Arenas and Butler but they still couldn’t get past the first round. What more this year without them?
