Adam Morrison Taken Out Of Context, Causes Some Scare About Diabetic Condition

The recently concluded NCAA tournament’s scoring champion Adam Morrison from Gonzaga, who is expected to be a top pick in this year’s NBA draft, has a great sense of humor. When asked about his diabetic condition and his decision to enter the NBA draft this year, he made a wise crack that was sent a scare somewhere.

During one sit-down - in what agent Mark Bartlestein insists was merely an off-hand attempt at humor - the wise-cracking Morrison feigned concern over losing his fingers and toes, and that as a result he must enter the draft ASAP.

By the time news of that interview reached one league executive last week, doubt had settled in.
“Why would he even say something like that,” the executive said, unaware that Morrison was apparently speaking in jest. “If you’re thinking about taking him, what are you supposed to think?” Source

So while Adam claims his diabetes is no cause for concern, it’s funny how his comments were taken out of context. A general manager in the league would indeed take note of a potential risk such as a health problem while drafting his players, especially when it involves a high selection. But isn’t it obvious that the kid is joking? It’s healthier for someone to joke about his problems than to worry and keep his thoughts preoccupied by them. That’s what the kid was doing.

On a side note, maybe Adam should visit Diabetes Notes so he can learn more about his ailment.

Oi! Some people have no sense of humor. I wish Morrison the best of luck. Such passion! It was a joy - and heartache - watching him play in the NCAA tournament.

Since I am a type II diabetic, I know what its like to be one. But life goes on….one does not stop just because one is diabetic. A very popular pop singer we know of really dishes it out every performance, dancing and singing his heart out. Since he is a juvenile diabetic, he needs daily insulin shots and probably a Pepsi (the soft drink he endorses) everytime his energy makes him lose sugar. But he is doing ok. Cant see why Adam Morrison cant get the same treatment. He will just have to keep a kit handy, and probably good old gatorade.
